It's the perfect size too, a lot of other travel mugs are too big or too small. I love this mug. I wanted something lightweight but would carry enough coffee for the early mornings. The click top is great for on-the-go sipping. And it really is spill proof--I often carry this thing in a bag with my laptop and papers without any worries. There's not much else to say, it's just a really good, basic everyday travel mug. And the $10 price tag isn't bad either.
I purchased four of these as Christmas stocking stuffers. They were a big hit. They seem to work really well and come in a variety of colors so people can tell them apart.
My coffee shop rinsed my mug with their scalding hot tea water and it melted a hole in the inner wall and now coffee seeps between the outer liner and the inner liner. I think I will upgrade to their stainless steel version. But the amazing thing is that it still doesn't leak. I really did love this mug until that happened. I ride my bike everywhere and it is great that I can just throw this into my messenger bag and not worry about ruining my work clothes in the process. I also don't use cream all too often and can imagine that the crud might build up in the top.
Even cleaning it with q-tips doesn't get it that clean. First, it's impossible to get the lid even reasonably clean.
As you would expect from an OXO product, it's comfortable to hold and drink out of. There are a lot of good things about this mug.
It looks stylish and fits into cupholders easily.But there are a couple serious flaws, however. It retains hot and cold temps reasonably well (I'm not one to let my coffee sit around for more than an hour, but it stays warm enough for me to finish my drink).
I like the pop-close button. It's not dishwasher safe, which is a big minus for me, and the way the lid is designed, there's always a bit of crud left.
Second, while it doesn't leak a lot, it can leak out of the little airhole on the lid.
My biggest complaint about this mug is the top is incredibly hard to clean and cannot be taken apart without prying the screws loose. I am looking at purchasing a Thermos to replace my OXO.UPDATE Oct 09: Don't waste your money on OXO. One hand, pop-button action is a plus.Hot coffee becomes warm to cold in roughly 1-2 hours; although the mug is double-walled, it's made of plastic, so it's not a good heat retainer. I bought this mug at a TJ Maxx for $7.99 several months ago because I was looking for something leakproof. Both are a cinch to clean and present none of the problems I've encountered with the OXO. Bottom line: Great for leakproof, insulation not so good, lid is hideous to clean.
If you don't clean well, top will continue to have "odors".
If you drink coffee/tea with creamer or milk, that crud will stay in there, and if anyone has found a way to clean the crevices, let me know.
The price for it on Amazon seems to go up and down - I bought it for $24-ish.
For the most part, it is, unless you have a couple of droplets left on top once you pop the mug to the closed position.
If you are in the market for a trustworthy, leakproof travel mug that seriously keeps your coffee/tea warm for hours - and I mean up to 5-8 hours - I have been greatly pleased with the Thermos 16-oz Stainless Steel Backpack Bottle.
I've attempted to soak overnight with dishwashing liquid to no avail.
I put the top to the light and see nasty stuff still clinging to the spring mechanism for the top, makinng me queasy about what I'm ingesting.
Thermos also has a 12-oz Stainless Steel Tea Tumbler with Infuser ($16-ish), also seriously leakproof and which can also be used for coffee.
I have no hesitation recommending them.
